Injuries from car accident kill student

Growing up, Nick Linvill enjoyed traveling to different places and was considered by friends and family to be an eclectic person. He was a 4-H exchange student during high school and went to places such as Japan, Mexico City and Poland. He became fluent in Spanish and tested out of several Spanish classes at Ball State University.



FOOTBALL: Playing in his own backyard

Hearing his alarm clock blare every morning two summers ago at 6 a.m., a Muncie Central High School senior football player constantly faced a decision most would rather not contemplate at the crack of dawn. On one hand, he could take the easy road and remain locked underneath his covers in his air-conditioned room.


Professor begins deanship at college

John Emert returned to Ball State University for the first day of class, as he had for the past 19 years. However, this year he came back as the associate dean of the Honors College. Emert began teaching Honors College classes about 17 years ago. The mathematician with an undergraduate degree in music performance had a chance to explore mathematical questions in his classes and taught abroad for the Honors College.


University starts renovations

As part of a long-range plan to expand east, Ball State University has started renovating the former Edmund and Virginia Ball home for academic use. Located on Riverside Avenue next to the Music Instructional Building, the Edmund and Virginia Ball home will become the headquarters for the university's Honors College.



Dining creates blog for students

Students can find information regarding Dining Services' contests, special meals and photographs via a blog that was launched in mid-August. Lucas Miller, manger of menu development, created the blog in response to limitations presented by the redesign of Ball State University's Web site.


BASEBALL: BSU pitcher suspended after arrest

A pitcher on the Ball State University baseball team was suspended after a police officer would not "give him a break." According to the Ball State University police, Seth Lawrence Hobbs, 20, of Marseilles, Ill., was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of public intoxication and minor in possession of alcohol.

During an age where you can find blogs covering topics from the War in Iraq to Paris Hilton, Ball State University Dining has begun to use the technology to hear about and prevent dining disasters.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: A Newell Standard

Anthony Newell heard his named announced in Worthen Arena and rose to his feet as applause from the crowd blanketed him in approval. It's a scene Newell has become accustomed to during his past four years with Ball State's men's basketball team, but this occasion was significantly different.



Center changes

Students returning to Ball State University this week will notice changes in and around the L.A. Pittenger Student Center. A construction fence will be going up around the main entrance to the building this week as construction continues on the building. Bruce Morgan, director of the Student Center and Programs, said the construction started a month ago and would be done in two phases.


Ball State to offer shuttle service to Indianapolis airport

In collaboration with the Indianapolis International Airport, Ball State University will offer students, faculty and staff a ride on the campus shuttle to the airport. Layne Cameron, associate director of University Communications, said those interested in the service must make reservations 72 hours in advance of the desired departure time.


Campus Alliance slate works through summer

The summer was a busy time for Campus Alliance slate members as they began working on their platform items for the school year. Although Frank Hood, Ball State University Student Government Association president, interned for a lobbying firm in Washington, D.

With gas prices hovering around $4 a gallon this summer, many drivers are seeking ways to save money while commuting.-áBall State University instructor Pam Stigall has been searching for others to carpool from her home near New Castle to Muncie since last year.

Judging from the reaction Nate Davis and Dan LeFevour received at the Mid-American Conference Media Day, there's little doubt the quarterback duo has separated themselves from other quality players in the league. For Ball State University students returning to campus, this is the time to see old friends and move into new apartments, houses and dorms. While settling into their new apartments, students might realize there is just something missing. Often they know what it is, and sometimes they won't.

MEN'S GOLF: Ball State hopes hard work reaps rewards

Even though Ball State's men's golf team is not required to participate in tournaments over summer vacation, Cardinals teammates were working hard to prepare for the fall season. After a disappointing spring season, head coach Mike Fleck said he expects a more experienced lineup to help his team rebound and have a successful 2008-09 season.

Earlier this year Indiana became the center of attention during the 2008 presidential primaries, and it appears the national attention -¡will continue through the election on Nov. 4, Joseph Losco, Ball State University political science department chairman, said.
