Free tickets available for Tuesday show at Emens

Emens Auditorium is offering free tickets to Ball State University students for "The Drowsy Chaperone," which is Tuesday. The show, which won five Tony Awards in 2006, is one of 12 that Emens is hosting throughout the year that are free for students, said Darci Woods, associate director of marketing for Emens.



WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Seniors, defense lead to MAC title

CLEVELAND - Bowling Green State University coach Curt Miller said it was ultimately the Ball State University women's basketball team's senior leadership and upperclassman presence that led to the Cardinals' 55-51 win against his Falcons in Sunday's Mid-American Conference Championship game.


MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Four days wreck title chances

As coach Joel Walton traveled back from back to Muncie late Saturday night he still had a little trouble believing what happened in the last four days. A combined nine points made the entire week completely unbearable for the 11-year head coach. Entering the week in first place in the conference, the Ball State University men's volleyball team lost three consecutive conference road matches in five games to most likely eliminate the team from a regular season title.

SOFTBALL: Ball State battles in close games during road trip

The Ball State University softball team joined thousands of Spring Breakers last week, as it looked to spend its break in Florida. Unlike the vast majority of its peers however, the team didn't head to the beaches, but rather, the field. The Cardinals played 13 games during their 10-day road trip, winning six and bringing their overall record to 8-10.


Ball State receives $950,000 earmark

Ball State University has received about $1 million in federal funding, which it will put toward the next phase of the McKinley Avenue construction project. The U.S. Congress approved $950,000 to go toward the McKinley-Riverside Avenues Safety Improvement Project, according to a Ball State press release.

That's exactly what the Ball State University women's basketball team did Sunday night, as the Cardinals defeated Bowling Green State University 55-51 to win the program's first-Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship and advanced to its first NCAA Tournament, known by many as the "big dance.

CLEVELAND - He hunched over at the free-throw line, hands on his knees and exasperated from several straight back-and-forth possessions of turnovers, steals, rebounds, picks and little shoves. MAC names new commissioner

The Mid-American Conference named the current Ohio Valley Conference commissioner as its new commissioner today. Jon A. Steinbrecher, who served six years as the OVC commissioner, will replace current MAC commissioner Rick Chryst. In January Chryst announced he will retire from the conference he led for 10 years once his contract ends June 30.


BASEBALL: Cards look to avoid luck of the Irish

The luck of the Irish takes the Ball State University baseball team to South Bend on St. Patrick's Day to play the University of Notre Dame. The Cardinals will hope to overcome any good bounces that come the way of the Fighting Irish on the day celebrating the patron saint of Ireland.


Journalists to discuss government secrecy

Bill Nichols, managing editor of Politico.com, and Tony Fargo, an assistant professor of journalism at Indiana University, will speak in the David Letterman Communications and Media Building on Monday. According to Politico.com, Nichols worked for USA Today for more than 20 years prior to joining the Politico team.
