Artist brought in for student lecture series

More than 20 people gathered in the Atrium on Wednesday evening to see a mobile art gallery display five performance art pieces. Hannah Barnes, faculty mentor for the Fine Arts League, said she invited Columbus, Ohio, artist Dina Sherman's IMA Gallery to Ball State University to perform the Soap Box Lecture Series.


OUR VIEW: Time of adjustment

Students battled a plethora of university-related e-mails Tuesday despite the launch of the new Communications Center Web site that should limit the e-mails they receive. Don't worry, it will get better. Students will receive fewer e-mails, but it will just take a little time.

The Village Merchants Association held the St. Patty's Day Bar Crawl in which the first 100 people to visit and buy a specialty drink from six Village bars won a T-shirt.



BASEBALL: Irish down Cards

Irish eyes smiled on the University of Notre Dame baseball team on St. Patrick's Day against Ball State University. The Fighting Irish (11-5) won 5-4 Tuesday to extend their winning streak against the Cardinals to four games. Three costly errors by Ball State (9-8) led to three runs for the home team, including an unearned run in the seventh and eighth innings.


BSU gets earmark

A $950,000 federal earmark will help Ball State University begin part of the final phase of the McKinley Safety Improvement Project. The funding was part of the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill President Barack Obama signed last week. Jim Lowe, Ball State's director of engineering and operations, said the money would cover the expenses to install storm drains along Riverside Avenue, which is "a phase of phase three" for the project.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ready to tango with Tennessee

Police arrest skateboarder

Ball State University police arrested a man on suspicion of resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct when the man ignored an officer's warnings to stop skateboarding today, police said. Police said the man, whose name they would not release at the arrest scene, was skateboarding on campus near the Scramble Light when an officer warned him to stop.


Women's Basketball fan bus sign up begins Wednesday

Starting 9 a.m. Wednesday, students can get tickets for a fan bus going to the Ball State University women's basketball team's NCAA Tournament game against the University of Tennessee in Bowling Green, Ky. on Sunday.


MEN'S GOLF: Cardinals finish 16th in spring opener

After almost a five-month offseason, the Ball State University men's golf team finished 16th out of 20 teams in its first event from the spring portion of its schedule Tuesday. The Cardinals placed ahead of Mid-American Conference rival University of Toledo but behind Miami University at the three-day invitational in Pinehurst, N.


Volunteering on vacation

While some students traveled to resorts and warm areas to celebrate their Spring Break, some student organizations worked with a non-profit medical group, helped teach high school-level courses and helped clean the environment. The Revolution Students from the religious group went to Pass Christian, Miss.



Village restaurant opens tonight

A new restaurant will open for business for the first time tonight in the former location of The Creole Kid. Mugly's Pub and Eatery will open its doors by 6 p.m., restaurant owner Myles Ogea said. It will serve standard pub fare on its menu, such as burgers, chicken wings and pizza, he said.


Ohio Valley Conference commissioner chosen to lead MAC beginning this July

The Mid-American Conference named the current Ohio Valley Conference commissioner as its new commissioner today. Jon A. Steinbrecher, who served six years as the OVC commissioner, will replace current MAC commissioner Rick Chryst. In January, Chryst announced he will retire from the conference he led for 10 years once his contract ends June 30.


MEN'S GOLF: Cardinals in 15th after two rounds Ball State is 21 shots behind leader MSU with one day to go

At the end of the second round of the three-round Pinehurst Intercollegiate, the Ball State University men's golf team is in 15th place out of 20 competing teams. The final round of the invitational begins at 9 a.m. today at Pinehurst, N.C. Speakers discuss public record laws

An overflowing crowd squeezed into the David Letterman Communications and Media Building Rm. 125 Monday to hear prominent journalists speak about the availability of public records. Bill Nichols, managing editor of Politico.com, and Tony Fargo, associate professor of journalism at Indiana University, came to campus as part of the journalism department's Professional-in-Residence program.

A BSU Indy 500 princess participates in St. Patty's parade

Two Ball State University students, who were chosen as Indianapolis 500 Festival Princesses, participated in the St. Patrick's Day parade Tuesday in Indianapolis. Sophomore interior design major Jennifer Eakins and senior speech pathology and audiology major Jeannette Young are two of 33 young women from Indiana to be selected as princesses.
