OUR VIEW: Intellectual confusion

CAUTION! Read carefully - high chance of confusion. Ball State University students seem to be having trouble understanding an issue that has gripped the attention of the campus community -¡- or at least the campus Facebook community - in the last few weeks.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cards add tournament

Though it's not on the schedule, the Ball State University women's tennis team will compete this weekend at a unique event. Not unique as in playing eight matches in two days like the team endured earlier this season at the Ball State Invitational, but different because of the players competing in the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association One Set Tournament this Saturday.

OUR VIEW: Save the Village

You asked and we answered. About 50 students attended a roundtable discussion to decide what could be done with the Village to entice student business. Also in attendance was a former lessor of a building owned by Myles Ogea. He and a friend tried to use the forum as a way to air grievances about how Whitney Stump, former manager of Mo's Tavern was treated.

Forum for students disrupted

A forum that was meant to discuss positive ways to improve the Village turned negative with accusations of "chump fishing" and the discovery of a handgun concealed in a boot. Whitney Stump, the former manager of Mo's Tavern, and another man attended the event in the Village in protest of Myles Ogea who Stump had a previous business contract with.

Damon Clevenger stood before a group of more than 150 students in Park Hall's Multicultural Center and asked them to draw on a piece of paper what they thought was sexy. Some members of the audience drew objects, some drew people and others wrote down words.

FOOTBALL: Perfect 10

OXFORD, OHIO - In the first nine wins of the season, Ball State University established a trend of pulling away late in games. Win No. 10 followed suit. The Cardinals played a lackluster game on both sides of the ball in the first three quarters before comfortably beating Miami University 31-16 at Yeager Stadium.

OUR VIEW: Fund our fun

When campaigning to be elected as leaders of Student Government Association, the Campus Alliance slate promised it would provide fan buses to some of the football team's biggest away games. As the football season has developed into the most impressive Ball State University has ever seen, that promise has become even more important.

QUESTIONABLE CONUNDRUMS: Bad experience taught lesson about attitude

It's nice when optimism actually pays off. At college, it's easy to let pessimism morph from an occasional disturbance into an everyday occurrence. That test in a core curriculum class you're probably not learning anything vital from puts you in a sour mood and makes it easier to snap at a good friend.

FOOTBALL: Cards' defense struggles on first half third downs

As the third down conversions went, so did Miami University in its 31-16 loss to Ball State University on Tuesday. In the first half Miami converted seven of nine third downs, allowing the RedHawks to keep the Cardinals' offense off the field for much of the half.

FOOTBALL: Cardinals' faithful pack restaurant

Ball State University football fans didn't need to travel to Oxford, Ohio, on Tuesday to cheer on their Cardinals in a victory against the Miami University RedHawks. Rather than commuting 90 minutes to the watch in person, dozens of Ball State students watched the game at Buffalo Wild Wings on East McGalliard Road.

About 353 people, consisting of Ball State University students and members of the Muncie community, took part in Bronson's speech about his book, "What should I do with my life?" A confused computer science graduate student Mary Fleming said she believed the speech inspired students.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals plagued by close defeats

Ball State University women's volleyball coach Dave Boos usually cringes when the words "five-sets" are brought up. In volleyball, when teams are tied at two sets a piece, the fifth set is a race to the finish line and the first team to reach 15 points, winning by two, then wins the match.
