The Freshman Connections program will now reach out to freshman commuters using student ambassadors as part of a revamped program, Freshman Connections Director Melinda Messineo said. Messineo said the current model of the program connects freshmen with the residence halls but neglects to give any attention to commuting freshmen.



WOMEN'S GOLF: Status quo in final round, Cards finish in 11th place

The Ball State University women's golf team entered Tuesday's final round of the Indiana Invitational with a chance of moving up a couple spots from its 11th-place start, but its inconsistency kept it from doing so. The Cardinals shot a 325 in Tuesday's final 18 holes after shooting a 326 and 325 on the first day of the tournament Monday.


PR students place 2nd in national competition

A team of eight Ball State University public relations students won second place in a 40-team national case study competition and earned $1,500. Samantha Adamczewski, Alexandra Garritano, Ashley Keebler, and Jennifer Regnier, as well as four other students competed in the Arthur Page Society Case Study Competition.


Homecoming is 'Best Week Ever'

The Homecoming Steering Committee has announced that the theme for this year's Homecoming Week will be "Best Week Ever." Publicity chair Chanel Richards said the VH1 show by the same name inspired the committee's decision. General chairwoman Samantha Adamczewski said it was much more difficult to choose a theme this year than last year.

Family of slain employee offering reward for info

The family of a former Ball State University Dining employee who was found shot to death in his home last year is offering up to $10,000 for information about the suspected homicide. Garth Rector, who worked for Ball State for 26 years, was found dead in his home in March 2008.

Movie explains student rights in police stop

The possibility of learning how to stand up to police officers brought more than 200 students to Pruis Hall Tuesday for the Ball State University Truth Movement's showing of "Busted: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving a Police Encounter." The video showed several scenarios in which police officers tricked or intimidated college-aged people into waiving their rights.



BASEBALL: Conference rule has Cards call today's game

Reporter's NotebookLast weekend's bad weather is continuing to affect the Ball State University baseball team. Ball State's home game against Indiana Tech scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rule. Indiana Tech, a WHCA member, is required to play all 20 of its league games and must make up any rainouts at the earliest possible date.


SOFTBALL: Milian wins weekly conference award

For the second time in three weeks, Ball State University softball pitcher Elizabeth Milian received a conference award. Milian was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. In home games against the University at Buffalo and Kent State University during the weekend, Milian won both games she started and recorded a combined 17 strikeouts.


BASEBALL: BSU boils over Purdue

For the first time since Spring Break, the Ball State University baseball team won a nonconference game, defeating Purdue University 17-8 to extend its winning streak to three games. The Cardinals (15-12) scored eight runs in the first three innings to open up a lead that was too much for the hosts to overcome.


MEN'S TENNIS: Out of Africa

When freshman Cliff Morrison played his first tennis match for Ball State University, opposing teams couldn't even get his name right and his own school had yet to acknowledge his existence. Morrison has had little trouble making a name for himself since then.


MITS route public hearing scheduled

MITS bus riders will have a chance to voice their opinions about the scheduled summer route changes at two local hearings this week. The MITS board of directors is having a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the MITS headquarters on Seymour Street.


Truth Movement to inform students of rights

With the help of four student organizations, the Ball State University Truth Movement will present the film "Busted: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters." Tony Farmer, president of the Truth Movement, said the movie was produced by the American Civil Liberties Union and is intended to inform people of their Constitutional rights.


WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinals enter final day 11th out of 15 teams at Indiana Invitational

The Ball State University women's golf team found itself in 11th place in a 15-team field after the first two rounds of play at the Indiana Invitational in Columbus. The Cardinals are at 75-over par, 25 strokes behind the leader UNLV, who shot a tournament team best of 309 in the second of two rounds played on Monday.
