BALK ON THE BALL: Firehouses bring to light city problem

Brother, can you spare $3.8 Million? If the city of Muncie is a human body with a failing heart, then Ball State University is the expensive, top-of-the-line pacemaker that has kept that body alive. But now, not only is the heart failing, but so are the kidneys, lungs and nearly every other vital organ in an already broken body.

Members vote to keep same health coverage

Insurance, tenure and honorary degrees were just some of the topics on the agenda at the Ball State University Board of Trustees meeting on May 14. Student's health insurance policies were discussed at the meeting, and they decided to retain the same coverage.



'Jerry' premiere attracts a full house

More than 800 people packed the auditorium of the Horizon Convention Center Thursday night at the premiere of "My Name is Jerry," featuring Ball State University graduate Doug Jones and other Hollywood actors.


Elevator malfunction evacuates Robert Bell Building

The Robert Bell Building was evacuated today because one of the building's elevator motors malfunctioned and started to smoke, Muncie Fire Department Lt. Chris Spencer said. The Muncie fire department originally responded to an elevator entrapment in the building, but Spencer said the trapped individuals were released.


Students must set themselves apart during job hunt

For the past four years, senior Katherine Barnet has been told that, with a nursing degree, she would be able to write her own ticket into the field of her choice. As it turns out, that ticket may lead to a position she doesn't necessarily want to be in. She said she's been searching every other day or so for job openings and putting in applications, but has not had any interviews.



Symposium offers a new perspective on identity

The Honors College and the College of Sciences and Humanities are doing something different with the Emens Lecture Series by presenting a symposium of student work. The Constructing Identities Symposium will take place Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Student Center.


James Brown Car Alarm plays last show after eight years together

Hundreds went to the Madhatter late Saturday as one of Ball State University's favorite bands played its last show. After eight years of playing together, James Brown Car Alarm, winner of best band in the Best of Ball State poll, is moving on as all three members graduate later in the week.


Students learn about their own identities through class project

While creating presentations about how identity is constructed, students said they learned more about their own identities and sense of self. Four Honors College classes presented Constructing Identity, a series of events about how people become who they are, Wednesday at Cardinal Hall.


Graduating seniors must be aware of financial debt

With graduation approaching, out going seniors will soon be faced with paying back student loans. Robert Zellers, director of scholarships and financial aid, said while in school, students need to be aware of money. Students don't have to pay interest, he said, and they are encouraged to keep track of the debt they accumulate.



Comm Center subscription rates may not reflect site popularity

Even though few students have unsubscribed to information from the Communications Center digest, that doesn't mean everyone is reading the e-mails. About one-third of the students have unsubscribed to at least one subject, but students say they don't even read the digest, let alone personalize their subscription.


StuStock brings in six bands

Studebaker East Complex and Studebaker West Complex are putting together the seventh annual StuStock from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday behind Stu West. Activities will include a battle of the bands contest, a raffle and a cookout. In order to enter the raffle, Studebaker residents have to use their Studebucks, a form of fake money residents can earn in the halls.


Science Day goal to educate, excite students

Rockets, slime and a genie will all be at the Delaware County Fairgrounds this weekend when a Ball State University student organization has a Science Day for Muncie children. Science Day will showcase more than 15 demonstrations, a miniature carnival and environmentally friendly activities.


Ball State HD movie to premiere at IMAX

The latest film from the telecommunications department will be shown on a screen half the size of a football field. "Free Wall" is premiering at the IMAX theater in the Indiana State Museum at 7:30 p.m today. The film is an emotional drama about two young men from opposite ends of the social spectrum.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ball State University men's volleyball team lost the first game of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament championship match against No. 10 Ohio State University 30-25.

The Ball State University men's volleyball is on the brink of elimination. Ball State lost game two to No. 10 Ohio State University 32-20 and now trail by two games in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament championship match.
