Cards induct four into hall of fame

On the wall of the Worthen Arena concourse hang the plaques of members of the Ball State University Athletics Hall of Fame. At the induction ceremony Friday night, former Cardinal swimmer Joy Gallagher, one of the newest members of the Hall of Fame, said she dreamed of seeing her face on the wall when the team would run laps around the arena.



GYMNASTICS: Change in venue doesn't help BSU

The Ball State University gymnastics team continued Mid-American Conference action on Sunday afternoon as it lost its home opener against Central Michigan University 192.925 to 191.525 in Worthen Arena. Although the change of venue from Irving Gym, which is under construction, provided a change of scenery for the Cardinals, coach Nadalie Walsh said the team started their home stand just where they left off in 2008.


SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cardinals lose to Bobcats

The Ball State University women's swimming and diving team fell to Ohio University on Saturday. The team won four events in the meet. Freshman Emily Haifley, who broke the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke last week, won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes.


Ready for a fun Super Sunday

So it's not the Colts versus the Bears, but tonight's Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals is still a big deal. It's the biggest stage in football and arguably all of sports. It's the chance for at least one Cardinals team to actually get a football title, or for one football franchise to be christened as the best ever.



University debates more Friday classes

A push by Ball State University's administration to schedule more Friday classes has been met with conflict between energy efficiency and student convenience. Associate Provost Marilyn Buck said scheduling more Friday classes would help students plan classes and graduate in four years.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards defeat Ohio 51-44

Freshman center Jarrod Jones led the Cardinals with 13 points and a career-high four blocks, while two other Ball State players reached double figure scoring as senior guard Laron Frazier had 11 points and senior guard Brandon Lampley added 10. Both Frazier and Lampley had three assists in the game.

The Ball State University women's swimming and diving team will do battle with defending Mid-American Conference champions,Ohio University on Saturday. The Cardinals are led by the reigning MAC swimmer of the week, Emily Haifley, who broke the Ball State record in the 200-yard breaststroke by two seconds last weekend.


MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State tries to even record at 2-2

Ball State University's men's tennis team will look to stay undefeated at home this season as it takes on the University of Dayton on Saturday. A victory against the Flyers would give the Cardinals an even record at 2-2 for the season. "It's a match where we are the favorite," coach Bill Richards said.


GYMNASTICS: Cards prepare for first home meet of season

As open-faced renovation continues on the Irving Gym athletic facilities, the Ball State University gymnastics team is set to play host to Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan University at 2 p.m. Sunday at Worthen Arena. Returning 10 starters from a 2008 season in which they placed third in the MAC Championships, the Chippewas, (3-0, 1-0 MAC), purvey what the Cardinals have been accumulating since early January: vocational experience.



BSU Web site wins award

Ball State University won Sitecore's Best Site of the Year for North America award, two years after the university re-launched its Web site with the content management system company. The university Web site was recognized among 10 other categories from Best Financial Site to Best Entertainment and Sports Site in the beginning of January.


FOOTBALL: Parrish names new conditioning coach

The Ball State University football team filled another void on its coaching staff Thursday that was created when former head coach Brady Hoke left for San Diego State University. Coach Stan Parrish, who replaced Hoke in December, named Mark Naylor as Ball State's director of football strength and conditioning Thursday.


WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards look to beat defending champs

The Ball State University women's basketball team looks to knock off the 2008 Mid-American Conference champions Saturday at Worthen Arena when Cardinal fans "Pack the House." Worthen Arena, get ready for Jerome Tillman. The Ball State University men's basketball team plays host to Ohio University on Saturday, led by the 6-foot-6, 235 pound Tillman, who leads the Mid-American Conference with 19.7 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game.


BSU area streets not plowed

The second day of cleaning up 12.8 inches of snow from the Muncie streets went "pretty good", **Ron Ball, Muncie Street Department maintenance supervisor, said. The winter weather caused the Muncie cleanup crews to work from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, mainly concentrating on the primary roads.
