MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Serving errors lead to Cardinals' downfall

The Ball State University men's volleyball team did not start off the way coach Joel Walton wanted it to in serving, which led to the team being swept by George Mason University. Ball State started off with six serving errors in the first game and lost by five points.

About 40 minutes after the match finished, coach Joel Walton sat on top of press row staring at the Worthen Arena court. After suffering what Walton called one of his worst losses in recent years, the 11th-year coach said he was still searching for answers.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cardinals finish regular season at Miami

The Ball State University swimming and diving team will finish its dual-meet season tonight against Miami University. "Miami is probably the premiere team in the [Mid-American Conference] this year," coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said. "They give us the best competition we have seen all year.

Ball State artist has reception for first solo gallery

Students and local residents walked through the second floor hall of the Cornerstone Center for the Arts building Thursday night, eating cheese and crackers and analyzing paintings and photographs on the walls. The reception for Mary Barczak's first solo art show, "Periodically, Nothing Happens," took place at the center from 6 to 8 p.


Famous Mozart opera comes to Ball State Friday and Sunday

"Don Giovanni," one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's most prestigious operas, will be performed by the Ball State University Opera Theatre this weekend. "Il Dissoluto Punito," "The Unrepented Rake" is the long name used back in the time Mozart created the opera, assistant professor of voice Joseph Levitt said.



MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State deals with extra-strenuous schedule

When coach Bill Richards made his schedule during the summer, he was well aware of the challenge he was giving his team this week. For the first time this season, the Ball State University men's tennis team will play match on back-to-back days this weekend.


Students perform poems in Pruis Hall

The jazz ensemble was silenced as senior telecommunications major Raphiael Chester walked onstage, took the microphone and started reading W.E.B. Dubois' essay "Double Consciousness." His own composition, "Dou Consciousness," brought the audience to its feet.

Injury has been commonplace through four weeks of competition for the Ball State University gymnastics team. So has been the theme of Ball State's wintery campus: the flu. "We've had eight girls with the flu this week," coach Nadalie Walsh said of the week's practices.



FOOTBALL: Collins wants to add exclusive club

As the Ball State University football team added 22 new players Wednesday, athletics director Tom Collins looked to add more supporters for the team. Collins announced the formation of the "Touchdown Club" at the Cardinals' National Signing Day Celebration Wednesday at the Alumni Center.


MEN'S BASKETBALL: Road game woes continue for Cards with 3rd-straight loss

Oxford, Ohio - Leading the Mid-American Conference West Division after a four-game home winning streak, the Ball State University men's basketball team headed east to take on Miami University. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State's offense goes kerplunk

OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State University men's basketball team expected a bigger, more physical opponent in Miami University going into Wednesday night's Mid-American Conference road matchup against the RedHawks. What they did not expect was to be outscored 40-10 in the paint, and the difference down low was costly in the Cardinals' 59-41 loss in front of 2,481 fans at Miami's John D.


WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State, IUPUI reschedule meet for this afternoon

Two days after orginally being scheduled to play, the Ball State University women's tennis team will finally compete against IUPUI this afternoon. The Cardinals' and the Jaguars' non-conference meet will start at 3 p.m. at the YMCA Tennis Center. This match was scheduled for Tuesday but it was postponed after IUPUI could not arrive in Muncie on time due to multiple car accidents in the snowy weather causing Interstate-69 to close.
