On-campus viewing area designated for slate debate

Students interested in watching the Student Government Association slate debate can do so in Teachers College Rm. 102, according to a press release. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and the debate will be aired live at 9 p.m. on Ch. 57 on campus and Ch. 61 off campus.


Slates meet in town hall

The three Student Government Association slates presented their platforms and answered a few questions for about 30 people in Botsford/Swinford halls Tuesday evening. Student Honors Council presented the town hall-style meeting, President William Jay said.

Jamieson kicks off speaker series

The Letterman Distinguished Speaker and Workshop Series kicked off Tuesday with Kathleen Hall Jamieson presenting "Emerging Media and the Path to the Oval Office" to a full audience in the Arts and Journalism Building. A professor of communications and director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, Jamieson explored the effect new media had on the 2008 presidential campaign.

As practices become shorter, days off become more common and the Ball State University men's basketball team attempts to contend with the wear and tear most athletic teams struggle through toward the end of the season. However the Cardinals could be four games away from a prize that will make all the extra trips to the training room and repetitive practice routines worth it all: a Mid-American Conference West Division Championship.

Facebook's changes missed by students

Facebook went back on its claim to ownership of any user posted material Feb. 18 and many Ball State University students didn't notice. Yoichi Arakawa, physical education major, said he was not aware of the recent changes in terms. Upon learning about it Arakawa reacted with disdain like many of the site's users.

Kinghorn announces retirement

Tom Kinghorn, vice president of business affairs, will retire July 1 and assume a part-time, three-year role addressing Ball State University's commercialization and development, according to Monday's President's Perspective. Kinghorn said he has been working at Ball State for 43 years and, at 67 years old, he's had a lot of time to consider what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, professor of communications and director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss "Emerging Media and the path to the Oval Office" at 7:30 p.m. today. Jamieson said the advent of the Internet and emerging media has changed not only how candidates for public office campaign, but also the very nature of politics itself.

As freshmen in high school, most people dreamed of the day they would be seniors, until graduation day when it all came to an end. The same can be said for the seniors of the Ball State University women's swimming and diving team, who will compete collegiality for the last time this weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championship.
