CINCINNATI - A Ball State University alumnnus and Muncie native was named the new president at the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday. Gregory Williams was selected as the school's 27th president by Cincinnati trustees after serving as the president of the City College of New York.
A precious religious item was stolen from Saint Francis of Assisi University Parish somewhere between 10 p.m. last Thursday and 6:30 a.m. last Friday. There are no suspects and there were not any witnesses, according to the police report filed Tuesday morning.
Smokers on Ball State University's campus may have to walk a little farther before lighting up now that there is one less designated smoking area. An e-mail sent Tuesday announced that the smoking area between the Arts and Communications Building and Pruis Hall has been eliminated.

After posting 37 kills last week, Charde' Phillips has been named the Mid-American Conference West Offensive Player of the Week. During the first home match of the season for Ball State University against IPFW on Friday, Phillips had a career high 14 kills en route to a Cardinal sweep.
Ball State University Homecoming Steering Committee members are wearing custom jerseys this week in honor of a new Homecoming activity: flag football. Senior Jada Buchanan, awards and judges chairwoman, said she hopes the jerseys will spark interest in the tournament and prompt students to ask committee members about the new event.

However, some students say they have been waiting all summer for their loans to go through. Denise Spudic, a graduate assistant for communication studies, said she filled out her student loan forms in mid-July, requesting the maximum amount of subsidized loans.
The swine flu virus has found its way to Ball State University, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Kay Bales said. The university has two confirmed cases of swine flu, she said. Bales did not have exact information about when the students contracted the virus, but said both students have since recovered.
The farewell tour for Ball State University running back MiQuale Lewis may be getting an encore. Coach Stan Parrish announced Monday that paperwork has been filed requesting a medical redshirt for the senior, meaning he would be eligible to play for the Cardinals again next season.
The Ball State cross country team has dropped out of their meet this Saturday in Bloomington to focus on the upcoming Indiana Intercollegiates, Associate Director of Media Relations Brad Caudill said Tuesday. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, September 18 in Terre Haute.
