When all of the Ball State University coaches were given a gender equity survey in their monthly meeting on Wednesday, they were not told why they had to fill it out, they were given no prior warning about it and they were given no time to prepare.



MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State survives scare vs. winless ISU

The Ball State University men's tennis team escaped from Terre Haute with a win Sunday. Ball State defeated Indiana State University 5-2, despite the winless Sycamores coming within two third-set tie breakers of a victory. "I expected a close match," coach Bill Richards said.


GYMNASTICS: Home advantage not there for BSU

It's 6:45 p.m. and graduate assistant Ashley Sweeny's night is still not over. Sweeny works for the recreation program and is a graduate assistant in charge of fitness. Her 20-hour weeks are filled with constant work. When I asked many of the student workers, including Sweeny, at Ball State University if they receive health insurance, they responded, not angrily, but with a firm no.



Ball State sometimes admits felons

A conviction won't necessarily keep felons out of Ball State University classes, but administrators said there is no cause for concern. Ball State typically accepts yearly between eight and 16 students with prior felony convictions, David Fried, director of Student Rights and Community Standards, said Friday - two days after a non-traditional student with several previous convictions was arrested on multiple charges.


Fan bus tickets available for Iowa State game

Students wanting to go see the Ball State University women's basketball team play Iowa State University on Tuesday can sign up for a fan bus. Rob Richards, director of Ball State ticket operations and customer service, said there are about 20 seats left on the first bus.


Cardinal Impact focuses on filling cabinet positions

This week Cardinal Impact will run its first Student Government Association meeting since taking office last Wednesday, and already slate members have wasted no time getting acclimated to their new roles. Still early in the transitioning process, the recently appointed SGA leaders have focused their initial efforts filling cabinet positions and setting a time frame to accomplish their platform points.

BASEBALL: Ball State wins series vs. Akron

The weather and the Ball State University baseball team put on their Sunday best, and Ball State defeated the University of Akron 5-1 to win the first Mid-American Conference series of the season. The Cardinals took Friday's game 4-3 before losing on Saturday 10-8.
