Minnetrista to offer internships in 18 fields

The Minnetrista Cultural Center will have an internship fair today for students from IUPUI, Ball State, Anderson and Taylor Universities and other surrounding colleges, according to a press release. Minnetrista is looking for interns for the summer, fall and spring seasons.



Living Room to close at end of April

An ailing Muncie music scene suffered another blow this weekend. After nine years, The Living Room will close its doors for the last time at the end of the semester. Manager Betsy Elwert said the venue is funded by The Gathering, part of a family of churches called Church of God in Anderson.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Packard named Maggie Dixon Rookie Coach of the Year

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association named Ball State University women's basketball coach Kelly Packard the Maggie Dixon Rookie Coach of the Year award for Division I coaches Monday. Packard led the Cardinals to the program's best overall record and most wins in a season with a 26-9 record.


WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals still looking for first MAC win

After two meets, the Ball State University women's tennis team is still winless in conference play. Ball State lost 6-1 to Miami University on Saturday afternoon in Oxford, Ohio. Sophomore Georgina Thomson was the only Cardinal to win her match. Playing at the No.



Initial hearing for student with multiple felony charges set for today

A non-traditional Ball State University student who was arrested on multiple felony charges is set to appear in court today. James Robertson, 40, will go before Judge Thomas Cannon for his initial hearing, according to court documents. Robertson faces charges of being a habitual offender and carrying a handgun without a license, which was enhanced because of previous felony convictions, court documents said.


OUR VIEW: Good neighbor

Neighborly behavior has returned between Ball State University and six Ohio counties. Ball State has arranged for some Ohio residents to pay in-state tuition using the Good Neighbor Award. This award has been implemented while the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Ohio Board of Regents work to establish a revised reciprocity agreement.


BASEBALL: Reporter's notebook

Hitting for the cycle It took Ball State University junior center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker four at bats Friday to perform a feat that hadn't been done in six years for the Cardinals. Hazelbaker notched the first cycle since 2003 against Kent State University starting pitcher Brad Stillings in just five innings.

When Beth Allen was told the former reciprocity agreement between Indiana and Ohio was canceled, she knew the out-of-state tuition rate was too expensive for her to attend Ball State University with her older sister, Laura Allen, who currently receives in-state tuition.

Best-selling financial author coming to BSU

A best-selling author and "Today" show editor will kick off Ball State University's Financial Literacy Week with a presentation on the findings of her latest book, Ball State announced today. Jean Chatzky, financial editor for NBC's "Today" and author of six books, will present her findings from her most recent book, "The Difference: How Anyone Can Prosper Even in Tough Times" on April 6.



MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Special serving delivery

When outside attacker Dominic Spadavecchio left the court midway through the second game Saturday, he was not aware he broke a school record and was on the verge breaking another record. Instead, he said he was happy to be pulled because it meant the No. 14 Ball State University men's volleyball team had a comfortable lead.


Homecoming royalty nomination begins

Ball State University's Homecoming Steering Committee began accepting nominations for Homecoming king and queen candidates today. Students have until 4 p.m. on April 10 to turn applications in to the Homecoming office in the Alumni Center. Eligible candidates must be enrolled as full-time students for Fall Semester.


SOFTBALL: Cardinals split weekend series vs. Chippewas

A doubleheader between the preseason No. 1 and No. 2 softball teams in the Mid-American Conference West Division resolved little. Ball State University opened its MAC season by splitting the series with Central Michigan University on Friday. Ball State won the first game 3-0 and lost the second 5-6 in 10 innings.

Music venue to close

The Living Room in downtown Muncie announced it would close its doors after nine years at the end of the semester. Volunteer Angie Bays said financial reasons are to blame for the closing. The church that sponsors the venue can't afford it anymore. She said attendance has been gradually declining the past few years.
