Remembering Matthew Shepard

Last night, a group of students marched down McKinley Avenue with lit candles in memory of Matthew Shepard and hoped that it will have an effect on how the world views the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community. The members of Spectrum led the march, after the play "The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later," from Pruis Hall to the University Green where they held the Matthew Shepard Vigil.



Cards 1st after Day 1 at MAC Preview

After one complete round of play, the Ball State University women's golf team is leading the MAC Preview tournament Monday in Fishers.


Producer brings film to Doc's

Andrea Ajemian, a producer from Artigo Ajemian Films, has been in Muncie since Saturday in promotion of her newest film "Still Green" and will host a screening party at Doc's Music Hall at 10 p.m. accompanied by the Michael Martin Band, a local band on the film's soundtrack.

BOOZERS AND LOSERS: Many lessons to be learned at fairgrounds

This past weekend was the first I went home, which for me is the Southern Indiana/Louisville area. A town near mine organizes an event called Harvest Homecoming, a celebration of autumn with booths, fair rides and apple cider "served hot or cold for your convenience."

FOOTBALL: Ball State fumbles away chance at its first win of the season

PHILADELPHIA - The ball sailed high over Temple University punter Jeff Wathne's head. It rolled 40 yards before Eric Williams corralled it in the end zone for a Ball State University touchdown Saturday. It was the Cardinals' second touchdown in a little more than two minutes and gave them a 13-10 lead in the third quarter.

House votes to include sexual orientation in hate crime law

WASHINGTON - The House voted Thursday to make it a federal crime to assault people because of their sexual orientation, and Jenika Garetson couldn't be happier. As vice-president of Spectrum, she hears about incidents of hate crimes against members of the GLBT community.



WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State returns home to play Buffalo

There's a bull in the china shop known as Worthen Arena and its angry. The University at Buffalo (11-7, 3-2) enters the weekend 0-8 all-time against Ball State University in Muncie and look to change that. Standing in the way are the Cardinals (9-9, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) that are coming off a five-set win against the University of Toledo on Thursday night.


FOOTBALL: Temple takes 17-13 lead into fourth quarter

PHILADELPHIA - A couple of big plays went in favor of Ball State University for once, but Temple University was able to take a 17-13 lead into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals scored twice in just over two minutes to take a 13-10 lead with 8:47 left in the third quarter.


FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State regains confidence entering today game vs. Ohio

Coming off a much needed victory, the Ball State University field hockey team looks to get to .500 in the Mid-American Conference play this weekend. Ball State (3-8, 1-3 MAC) will play home games against Ohio University at 1 p.m. Saturday and Kent State University on Sunday.


SOCCER: Central Michigan trounces Ball State

The Ball State University soccer team lost to Central Michigan University 3-0 on Friday in Mount Pleasant, Mich. With the game scoreless and less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Central Michigan's Amanda Waugh scored the game-winning goal. The Chippewas scored two more goals in the first 25 minutes of the second half to take a three goal lead.


FOOTBALL: Temple holds on to 10-0 lead

PHILADELPHIA - Ball State University blocked a field goal for the first time in two years, but Temple University held its 10-0 lead headed into halftime. The Cardinals stood strong after a holding penalty gave the Owls a first-and-goal at the two yard line.
