OUR VIEW: Hit the refresh button; it's a new semester at Ball State

Regardless of what happened last semester, that is all in the past. For better or worse, today's new semester marks a start that we all can look forward to. It's an opportunity to start new classes, get involved in student organizations and spend the next two months braving through the brutal weather as you walk down McKinley Avenue to your classes.


Construction on University Avenue to begin Tuesday

The Indiana American Water Company will begin construction on a new water line along University Avenue on Tuesday, Ball State University announced. The new line will extend from the intersection of Tillotson Avenue east to the dock at Ball Memorial Hospital. Most of the work will be on or under the north sidewalk. University Avenue won't be closed and the work should have little effect on traffic.



MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State falls 2 spots to No. 13 in coaches poll

Four days before playing its season opener, Ball State moved down two spots to No. 13 in the top 15 coaches poll released Monday night. The Cardinals received 50 votes — 23 fewer votes than in the preseason poll — as the University of Hawai'i and UC San Diego moved ahead of Ball State.



Ball State alum goes green with construction projects

With the current economic struggles, people are looking for ways to reduce their cost of living. Many are turning to "greener" products, using environmentally friendly goods that are more energy- and cost-efficient. Green products are able to be recycled, reused or are easily decomposed when thrown away. However, building deconstruction may not be the first thing to come to mind when thinking green.


University Film Series released

The University Film Committee has announced its University Film Series schedule for Spring 2010. All films will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Art and Journalism Building Rm. 175. 


BASEBALL: Ball State coach in favor of extending season

In little more than a month, Ball State University expects to travel to the University of Arkansas to begin their season in the warmth of the South. That is unless a rule extending the baseball season to 14 weeks is overturned at the NCAA convention this week in Atlanta.



Ball State approves new bachelor degree

Ball State University's Board of Trustees agreed to create a bachelor of arts and science program for construction management. It also will revise the doctor of education in science degree, making it a Ph.D. in environmental science.


Ball State trustee says extending Gora's contract right move

Thomas DeWeese, a veteran member of the Ball State University Foundation, said extending President Jo Ann Gora's contract for two years past her current term was simply the right thing to do. DeWeese is the president of Ball State's Board of Trustees, which decided unanimously during its Dec. 18 meeting to extend Gora's contract to June 2014 from June 2012.


Blue Loop returns for cold months

Students who live in the neighborhoods east of campus can once again enjoy the warmth of one of Ball State University's shuttle buses while coming to and from campus.
