Ball State University libero Alyssa Rio pulled her left hamstring in the Cardinals' 3-0 Friday night loss to No. 19 Purdue University, the junior told The Ball State Daily News on Saturday night. Rio said she hopes to return to the lineup within a month. She is still awaiting to be evaluated by team doctors on campus to begin treatment.

After a miraculous year in 2008, in which the Cardinals went undefeated in the regular season, Ball State University will begin another glorious season of football Thursday. The Cardinals will open the 2009 season against the University of North Texas at Scheumann Stadium on Thursday.
In the spring, Ball State University will begin offering accelerated online degree programs to accommodate the admission overflow to certain master's degree programs. This new program will target adult learners who may need to find a new degree or change careers, Nancy Prater, director of marketing and communication for distance education, said.
With the economy ailing, more non-traditional students are taking college classes - some for the first time, some not. More of these new or renewed academic quests are likely to take place at Ball State starting in the Spring Semester. Government programs help these students pay for their studies so they can become more qualified to compete for a job.

After a 2-17 record last season, the Ball State University field hockey team feels more confident and has more experience, which it believes will be the deciding factor in improving the team as a whole. The players have become very close knit during the off season and that is something that head coach Annette Payne believes will keep the girls together throughout the regular season, she said.

Ball State University has been rapidly expanding its borders in the past few years. It has built excellent new facilities with "Cutting Edge Cool" technology and beautified the landscape. Enrollment also has been increasing in the past few years. So we have a great looking campus and more students to experience it.
"Tipsy Trolley Fundraiser" will be held today at Doc's Music Hall in downtown Muncie. All proceeds will go to the Late Loop. Doc's owner Mike Martin said Downtown Development has about $4,000 already and his goal for this fundraiser is $600 to $1,000.
As tickets for Styx with special guest Kansas go on sale at 10 a.m. today for the Oct. 2 show, John R. Emens Auditorium officials remain optimistic the venue's 2009 event calendar will draw in a steady audience. Compared to previous years ticket sales have been up, Director Robert Myers said.
