Teegarden crowned Miss Ball State; achieves 'long time' goal

Throwing her hands in the air, and then covering her face, Savannah Teegarden said she was flooded with excitement at becoming Miss Ball State. "Being Miss Ball State was a goal for me for a long time," she said. "I didn't place last year, but I competed at a lot of local pageants. I felt so much excitement. It all comes rushing to you at once."

After the shock of viewing the horrific images of Tuesday's earthquake on television, she cried herself to sleep."It's just been devastating," she said. "I couldn't believe the news I was hearing."

That was the difference Friday night at Worthen Arena between the Ball State University women's basketball team (8-8, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (3-16), as the Cardinals came out on top, 64-40.

Local jazz band brings progressive sound to Doc's

Ashton Kleeman first started playing jazz music because it allowed him to improvise with his instrument, not because he wanted to make a sing-a-long rock album. "Jazz is not about how cool you are or about selling your clothing line, it's about how good you can play," Kleeman said.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Improving defense a key for Cards

Sure, there were positives with forward Emily Maggert eclipsing the 1,000 point mark for her career and the offense recording 80 points, but the negatives outweighed the positives for Ball State University Coach Kelly Packard and her team. Ball State fell to 7-8, 2-1 on the season, but may get a break from a challenging schedule Friday when they host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (3-15).
