Ball State program helps to acclimate international students

Last year, Ball State University increased it's number of international students by more than 100. This recruitment initiative brought more students to the Intensive English Institute, a program on campus that helps international students learn English in a short period of time.

Volunteers clean up 15 miles of the White River

Every weekend, Bob Snavely and his dog Buster can be found walking and fishing on the banks of the White River. "It's a part of our week," Snavely said as he handed Buster a beef jerky treat. "If [friends and family] want to see me on Saturday or Sunday, they gotta come to the river.


Career Center lecture series begins today

Even with a college education, many graduates still have trouble finding a job in their desired career. In response to that notion, Ball State University's Career Center has created a lecture series to give students the skills and knowledge they need to get a job.

FOOTBALL: Auburn announces start time for Sept. 26 game against Ball State

The game time for Ball State University's football game at Auburn University on Sept. 26 has been set for 6 p.m. central time. The game will be televised on Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Southwest and Sun Sports. Joe Hernandez, Assistant Athletic Director for Media and Alumni relations, said he did not know if Fox Sports Indiana would pick the game up as well.


FOOTBALL: Parrish says backup Justice will likely play Saturday against Army

Coach Stan Parrish said Ball State University backup quarterback Tanner Justice is likely to play Saturday at Army. Speaking at his weekly press conference, Parrish said Justice should have come in during Ball State's 23-16 loss to the University of New Hampshire to give freshman Kelly Page a break.


Swine flu vaccines to be available in October

In addition to offering seasonal flu vaccines, the Amelia T. Wood Health Center will also be distributing the swine flu vaccine to students this flu season. The H1N1 vaccine for swine flu will be available sometime between the middle and end of October at Ball State University and will be free for students.

THINK TO EXIST: Seek better behavior, greater respect for others

As children, we are often taught that we should treat others as we want them to treat us. In other words, what goes around comes around. Yet, this life lesson, more commonly known as the "Golden Rule," is not always followed. Each day I see examples of disrespect where someone mistreats another or hurts them emotionally or physically.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - It did not take former Ball State University football coach Brady Hoke to get his first win with his new team. After losing its season opener last week, San Diego State University had to a 35-19 victory against Southern Utah University on Saturday night for its first win of the season.


FOOTBALL: How the MAC fared this week

Teams from the Mid-American Conference were a combined 5-7 this week. In addition, the MAC had two wins against BCS conference teams as the University of Toledo defeated Colorado on Friday and Central Michigan University defeated Michigan State University on Saturday.


Student Foundation sells $7,000 worth of Ball State football shirts

Students who own the popular "Chirp Chirp, the birds are back" T-shirt are showing school pride by not only supporting the Ball State University football team, but by supporting their fellow classmates. Profits from the T-shirt sales go toward scholarships for Ball State students, including the James Marine Scholarship - which is $1,000 and awarded to an outstanding junior.


The Living Room reopens with acoustic, rock performances

When the campus church the Revolution was looking for a permanent location for an office, organizers didn't know they would end up reopening The Living Room, an all-ages music venue in downtown Muncie. Sponsored by the Church of God in Anderson, The Living Room was once a big part of the Muncie music scene and was one of the largest all-age venues in the area.
