Greeks make a splash for Riley Children's Hospital

Theta Chi fraternity and Sigma Kappa sorority will co-sponsor their fall fundraising event tomorrow, encouraging participants to splish, splash and get soaked all for a good cause. Kendall Ray, Water Daze committee chairman from Theta Chi, said this event is a big fundraiser for Riley Children's Hospital.



WOMEN'S GOLF: Ball State to host its only tournament of season

The Ball State University women's golf team is confident and ready to go for the weekend's Cardinal Classic Tournament. This is the only home tournament that the team will host this season. "Play the way they know they can and shoot the great scores that they are capable of.

"Beat Ball State." The Cardinals arrived in West Point, N.Y., on the eve of their first road game of the year seeking their first victory.


Local band to play charity concert for the American Cancer Society

Local band Without Reason is playing a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society today in Yorktown, Ind. Without Reason's lead guitarist, Christopher Draper, is a freshman at Ball State University. "We are really excited about [the benefit concert]," Draper said.



FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State look to bounce back vs. IU after rough loss in MAC opener

Even after losing its Mid-American Conference opener, the Ball State University field hockey team went back to practice focused on getting better and getting things back on track for this weekend. FOOTBALL: White likely lost for the year with injury

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The promising start to wide receiver Seth White's career at Ball State University took a turn for the worse Saturday. In Ball State's 24-17 loss at Army, White suffered a broken collarbone that will require surgery. The freshman is likely to miss the remainder of the season, coach Stan Parrish said.



FOOTBALL: Late interception gives victory to Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The two-quarterback system didn't do much for Ball State University except produce interceptions in a 24-17 loss to Army. Freshman Kelly Page threw a game-deciding interception that was returned for a 18-yard touchdown by Army. With the game tied at 17 with 6:41 left in the fourth quarter, Page rolled out to the left in his own end zone and threw towards tight end Zane Fakes.


Industry executive stresses the importance of clean, sustainable energy

Ball State University alumnus Jim Turner, group executive of Duke Energy, returned to his alma mater Friday to give a presentation about energy use. Turner said electricity is instantaneously produced and consumed, however, an estimated 1.6 billion people do not have ready access to it.


Kelly Packard talks about the importance of having good relationships

Ball State University women's basketball Coach Kelly Packard said it is important to be truthful to maintain good relationships. "Some of the hardest things we need to say are difficult, but completely necessary for the relationship to grow," she said. By being truthful people in a relationship can share and benefit from each other's best qualities, she said.

Sun up to sun down

It was about 8:15 p.m. and the sun was slowly setting outside the Islamic Center of Muncie. It was quiet outside, but inside there was a flurry of activity and noise. Children raced through the hallways, food was being prepared in the kitchen and people began to sit at the long dining tables that were covered with trays of food.

New technology premieres at Bracken Library

The Helen B. and Martin D. Schwartz Special Collections and Digital Complex had its grand opening 10 a.m. Thursday in Bracken Library. The complex is bringing new technology to Ball State University's campus by allowing students and faculty to access media resources and special collections from University Libraries on a global level.


Indiana's jobless rate drops to 9.9 percent

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana's unemployment rate dropped to 9.9 percent in August, but state officials say its too early to tell whether the decline marks the beginning of a trend. Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers released Friday show Indiana's jobless rate fell from 10.


Art Museum exhibit features small-scale sculptures

Art can take on many different forms and functions within museums and art galleries, as in the case with the Museum of Art's most recent showcase featuring artist and sculptor Jerald Jacquard. The new exhibit, "Jerald Jacquard's Creative Process: Sculpture Projects 1999-2009," will be open to the public on Friday and will feature his works from the past 10 years.
