Blood drive in AJ parking lot set for today

The American Red Cross hopes to collect 35 pints of blood through a blood drive held on a "blood-mobile" Friday in the parking lot between the Art and Journalism Building and Teachers College.

February is the month of awareness. It's a time of "singles awareness" for those with a distaste for Valentine's Day. It's Black History Month, which raises awareness of civil rights and race relations in the U.S. And it's the American Heart Association's month of awareness for heart health.




Prevention, awareness essential in battle against heart disease

For many Americans, February is the month known for Valentine's Day, and they will be busy sending cards decorated with red hearts; however, many will ignore the needs of their own hearts. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women across the country and it can be prevented in most cases.


SCENE SELECTION: Checking movies off your 'to-see' list

I don't have time now to watch more than one movie in a weekend due to all my homework and various college activities. When I do have the opportunity I try to pick something good. Last weekend, I decided to watch a movie I had never seen, yet needed to see to legitimize my critical analysis of American film.



BASEBALL: Ball State to use unique pitching strategy in 2010

The approach is similar to what coach Greg Beals and other college coaches use in midweek games when their best starting pitchers are resting. The difference with Ball State's new approach is the length of the pitchers' outings. In a typical midweek game, Beals often uses pitchers for only one inning at a time.


ATHLETICS: Ball State to host three "Think Pink" events

The Ball State athletics department continues its support of breast cancer awareness with three upcoming "Think Pink" events. All donations support Ball State's College's Against Cancer organization.


FOOTBALL: Ball State opens pipeline to elite Cleveland high school

In the past three years, coach Stan Parrish has developed a pipeline between Glenville and Muncie. Last season four Glenville graduates played for Ball State, and safety Aaron Morris will join his former teammates Wednesday when he signs his letter of intent on National Signing Day.


Relay for Life to recruit today

The American Cancer Society chapter at Ball State University is recruiting more participants for this year's Relay for Life.


Working Well offers indoor walking trail suggestions

Ball State staff have discovered a way to make an indoor fitness routine fit in with students' and employees' daily schedules. Recreation Services and the employee Working Well program teamed up in January to measure distances students and employees frequently travel on campus.
