OUR VIEW: Student aid overhaul underway

Lost in the hubbub of the health care debate Sunday night was substantial support to students' efforts to attend college. Tacked onto health care reform, the U.S. House of Representatives passed sweeping changes to student aid.


Women's Week series continues with "Surviving Psycho"

 The University Film Committee will pair with the Women's Week Committee in their discussion of women in horror films with their showing of the Alfred Hitchcock classic "Psycho" (1960) from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Art and Journalism Building Room 175. The film is the first in a three-part series titled Bad Girls and Blood: Gender, Culture, and Slasher Films.


75th annual art show showcases student talent

Art students will be given a chance to show off their class projects to their peers, faculty and the general public in a show that promises prizes and more.The 75th Annual Student Art Show is free and will open at 9 a.m. Friday at the Ball State University Museum of Art. The opening ceremony and awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.



Congress clears historic health care bill

WASHINGTON — Summoned to success by President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled Congress approved historic legislation Sunday night extending health care to tens of millions of uninsured Americans and cracking down on insurance company abuses, a climactic chapter in the century-long quest for near universal coverage.


Ind. freezes some medical savings account rolls

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mitch Daniels has temporarily frozen some enrollment in Indiana's medical saving accounts for low-income adults while the state determines how the federal health care overhaul bill affects it.


Cultural Cook-off postponed until next semester

The Cultural Cook-off that was planned for 5 p.m. Tuesday in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Tally has been postponed to next semester.  According to Trevor Foley, events coordinator of the Rinker Center for International Programs, the Cultural Cook-off organizing committee decided to postpone the event due to a lack of students interested in participating.



BASEBALL: Cardinals ready for another Big East opponent

Ball State University will travel to the University of Notre Dame and take on another Big East opponent Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals are looking for their first win against the Fighting Irish since 2005.


Women's Week kicks off today

The Women's and Gender Studies program will kick off its annual Women's Week today with three events, including a live video conference with the attorney of Jane Roe during Roe v. Wade.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Riding the coattails of a historic health care vote, the House on Sunday also passed a broad reorganization of college aid that affects millions of students and moves President Barack Obama closer to winning yet another of his top domestic policies.

THE UNWITTING PARTICIPANT: Students should avoid apathy, start getting involved

I don't want to be the one to break this to you, but there has long been an unchecked menace in our society: student apathy. In our day-to-day routines, we are all so busy that most of us do not genuinely care about the activities of outsiders (unless they're in our individual family on "Mafia Wars").
