Showcasing Ball State student talent

After lighting arrangements, stage preparation and months of practice, the show is ready to go on. The Junior Choreography Showcase is at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Friday night in the Korgaard Dance Studio, Room 213 of Ball Gym. An additional performance is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The performance will showcase the work of eight choreographers who have spent two months working on their dances.

FROM THE HOOD: Smoker prejudice prevalent in workplace

Starting on May 1, a Pennsylvania hospital will stop hiring new employees who are smokers in an effort to reduce health care costs — an example of how ethnic minorities, pregnant women and many other groups are protected from discrimination in the workplace, but smokers aren't.



Museum of Art to display 14th century art

A newly acquired 14th century painting has recently been acquired by the Ball State University Museum of Art just in time for Easter.The painting, "Madonna and Child" by Italian artist Taddeo di Bartolo, comes courtesy of a donation from the collection of David T. Owsley, Associate Director of the Museum Carl Schafer said. "Madonna and Child" shows the Virgin with the Christ child standing on her right knee, and with one hand pointing to a bird, possibly representing a goldfinch — a bird that could fly among the thorns and come out unscathed — which is held in his other hand.


Students to compete in finals of bridge building competition

Placing among the top five at an engineering competition, Ball State University students from the College of Architecture and Planning look forward to competing in the final round of a bridge building competition at the University of Akron.



Warm temperatures to continue in Muncie

While the East coast recovers from severe thunderstorms and flooding, students in Ball State University can say for the first time this year that Indiana is the place to be.


Celebrating the arts

Tonight, downtown Muncie will celebrate the local art scene with this month's First Thursday Gallery Walk.On the first Thursday of every month, the city's art galleries host opening receptions for new featured artists. April's First Thursday event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
