SCENE SELECTION: 'Death at a Funeral,' 'Kick-Ass' out Friday

Here are some quick hitters to check out if you want to see some quality films this weekend. I'll give a little variety, because watching a film always depends on your frame of mind. You can't always watch the art house mindbending films, in the same sense that you shouldn't continuously view empty blockbusters.


BASEBALL: Ball State plays host to Buffalo to move back into MAC play

A sweep would be very beneficial to Ball State's MAC West title hopes after it fell out of first place last weekend, despite winning twice at Bowling Green State University. The University of Toledo and Central Michigan University are tied for first, a game ahead of Ball State.


OUR VIEW: Offering thanks to student employees

At issue: All student employees deserve some recognition, even those in menial jobs.As the year winds down it's a good time to extend some thanks and congratulations.Across campus, students and employees are being recognized for their work during the past year.



"Epic adventure" begins for Springfest

 Ball State University Senior Nick Armogida promises this year's Springfest will be an "epic adventure." After becoming the main organizer of the music festival two years ago, Armogida has watched Springfest grow from a small collection of local bands to a yearly event some people travel 24 hours to attend.


SOFTBALL: Ball State continues MAC slate with trip to Buffalo

If the numbers are any indication, ace Elizabeth Milian and the Cardinals' pitching staff should continue to roll against the Bulls (13-21, 3-3 MAC). Buffalo ranks 11th out of 12 MAC teams in batting with a .222 team average and also rank 11th in runs (80) while ranking 10th in hits (180).


Mr., Ms. Ball State pumps up crowd

Months of training and dieting paid off for the Ball State University students that competed at this year's Mr. and Ms. Ball State body building competition.



TRACK: Short-handed Cardinals to run in Louisville

With numerous complaints over nagging injuries, coach Randy Heisler plans to send less than 20 runners and throwers to the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational at the University of Louisville.



Big impact of local record stores

 25 bands will perform at Village Green Records between April 16 and April 17. The event will provide the Muncie community with an opportunity to be exposed to a collection of arts with many diverse styles ranging from folk to hip-hop.


Pretender/Contender pulses with intense lyrics, vocals

 Pretender/Contender is the shape of punk, hard-core and indie to come. The band garners influence from Refused, Minus the Bears, Native, La Dispute and This Town Needs Guns. Pretender/Contender consists of Mike Schaffner on guitar, Ryan Harvey on drums and Lucas Carter on bass and vocals. Carter has been playing music for 11 years and said he has gained his best friends and best memories from his musical experiences.
