GRAIN OF SALT: Indiana General Assembly's agenda greatly flawed

Unlike the United States Congress, the Indiana General Assembly is only a part-time legislature. This year the House of Representatives and the Senate will gather until March 14. The session, from what I learned, will come down to two issues – property tax caps and ethics reform.

Healthy habits key to successful new year

Eating healthy foods and exercising are just two of many resolutions that were made on New Year's Eve. It may not have been too hard to set the resolution but maintaining it can be. Between going to class, studying, working on projects, getting enough sleep and doing extracurricular activities, it can be difficult to exercise and eat healthy on a regular basis.Brittany Kilgore, junior elementary education major, is just one student who made the New Year's resolution to workout more.

Delaware County receives tax revenue benefit

Delaware County is generating positive tax revenue per capita, defying the deficit trends for urban Indiana communities. The Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute and the Ball State University Center for Business and Economic Research issued a study of tax revenues generated by counties in Indiana. Hot recipes for cold winter months

What is more refreshing during the days of summer than a chilled glass of lemonade or a bowl of fresh, crisp fruit salad? Not a whole lot. Summer's easy – give anyone something cool and fresh with lots of water and he's good to go. But what do we do about winter? What kinds of foods should we eat, especially with New Year's resolutions that deal with weight loom overhead? And something chilled is not a first choice when it's below freezing outside.

FROM THE HOOD: Simple suggestions to save Ball State money

The state of Indiana has seemed to run into the proverbial fiscal pickle. More than $150 million is being cut from higher education in the state. Thanks Gov. Mitch Daniels. Of that, $15.25 million is being cut from Ball State's budget. The administration has asked for input from all areas of campus. Hearing this call for help, I'd like to put forth these suggestions on how to cut costs at the university.
