Sustainable Fashion: The Double-Edged Sword

Although thrifting has risen in popularity, it faces significant hurdles: Donation centers like Goodwill are often forced to send damaged items to landfills, and the prevalence of blended synthetic fibers makes true textile recycling technologically difficult. Furthermore, efforts to shop responsibly are often undermined by "greenwashing" marketing tactics and the increasing scarcity of high-quality vintage pieces in secondhand markets. Ultimately, experts suggest that while upcycling and better infrastructure are helpful, the most effective path toward being more environmentally conscious lies in consumer education focused on buying fewer, higher-quality items and extending the lifespan of your clothing.
