MUNCIE, Ind. – On Monday night, Homecoming Week leaped to a start with inflatables, face painting, balloon artists and food trucks. Students were able to enjoy a three-hour festival as they started their celebration of school spirit.

Nine food trucks made an appearance, ranging from Fish N’ Chips, doughnuts, and American concessions. While the first 100 people earned free drinks from the local Twisters Soda Bar truck, other sweet treat trucks were also in the lineup.

“I think just bringing the community together and getting that spirit of Homecoming since it is the first event of Homecoming Week, it’s just a lot of fun,” said Homecoming Committee Special Events Chair, Olivia Glaeser.

Music filled the air as students came together to dance to the “Cha Cha Slide” and anticipate who is going to win the raffle baskets. They also had the chance to network with student organizations such as the Student Government Association and the Dance Marathon group. Yard games and competitions filled the grassy area in a way to allow the community to come together.

Local businesses were able to make an appearance and showcase what they have to offer. Lines for the food trucks spanned across the pavement, with students, faculty and community members coming together in school spirit.

“Really, it’s a spot for everyone to participate, like watching all the kids around since we do have inflatables, but also seeing the college students getting back in their childhood, getting to do some fun,” Glaeser added.

While the fun is just beginning, many more events will be held on Ball State University’s campus to continue the celebration.
