MUNCIE, Ind. – With Homecoming week coming to a close, many students and residents of Muncie are looking forward to the weekend full of school spirit. One event many are excited for is the Chase Charlie 5k run on Saturday, starting at 8:45 a.m..

The route will take participants from the city hall to Emens Auditorium in a spiral, traveling through multiple streets and paths. To view the mapped route, visit their website at chasecharlie.com.

Many students and residents are excited for the 5K, to them, it's a way to connect Ball State Students to Muncie as a whole. Since Ball State is such a huge campus with its own population of students, it’s important to venture out and become a part of the community you live in.

“It's an event that's open for everybody here. So, trying to get people from Muncie in here, trying to get people from Ball State and bridge those two communities because at times it can kind of feel disconnected. Trying to bridge these two communities can help out both of us a lot. I mean, Ball State can go and do a lot of community service and stuff around Muncie Community and the Muncie community can give back to us here through and a lot of those connections can be made through Chase Charlie,” said junior Ryan Staley.

With Homecoming marking the middle of the semester, many students are stressed about midterms, but with Homecoming, students can make sure to have a good time at events like Chase Charlie, The Bed Races and Air Jam before exams.

“I think it's a great way for the community to come together as a whole and just celebrate Ball State together as well. And it's such a fun weekend to look forward to in the fall, especially right in the middle of the semester, where things start to get a bit tough. It's nice for all the students and even people off campus to come together to celebrate for sure,” said sophomore Alana Bristow.

From a freshman perspective, Homecoming at Ball State is entirely new for them, and for freshman Easton Cummings, Homecoming and Chase Charlie offer a look into why getting together is important.

“It's important to get people together and to socialize at all these events and create a better community.

“I've run 5 Ks and it has been fun. And for the people that did that in high school like did run 5 Ks or they ran track or other things like that, is fun for them to kind of go back to what they used to do and do what they missed doing, like meeting new friends and stuff like that, and finding other people that share the same interests,” said Cummings

You can still sign up for Chase Charlie online at chasecharlie.com. Or you can sign up on the morning of the race. Show up and show out. Give yourself a nice little break to have fun, get together and Chase Charlie.
