Following Muncie's Ironman 70.3 triathlon July 12, a race participant has passed away, according to a post made by the race's official Facebook page July 15.
"During the swim portion of Saturday’s race, water safety personnel recognized the athlete requiring medical attention. The athlete was attended to and provided immediate medical care by water safety personnel before being transported to the nearby hospital for further treatment," the post reads.
"The athlete sadly passed away on Monday. Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the athlete, and we will continue to offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the water safety personnel and first responders for their quick work in assisting the athlete."
