Ball State Men's Tennis head coach retires after five decades

After 53 seasons of service, Ball State Men's Tennis Coach Bill Richards will retire, according to a press release from Ball State Athletics. 

Richards leaves as the winningest coach in Ball State and Mid-American Conference (MAC) history with an overall record of 769-482. Under his leadership the Cardinals won 38 MAC regular season and/or tournament titles, made 8 NCAA tournament appearances and had 17 undefeated regular seasons. 

Additionally, he won the MAC Coach of the Year award 15 times. Richards is already in the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame, and the Cardinals tennis facility were renamed in 2023 to the Foster Adams Family Tennis Complex and Bill Richards Tennis Courts.

His successor has yet to be announced.
