Yesterday, Ball State women’s tennis fell 1-6 to Eastern Michigan at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Doubles play started with key Ball State players missing from the line-up; sophomore Sydney Hrehor and freshman Sarah Shahbaz.
The two did not play against the Eagles and it is unclear how long it will be before Hrehor and Shahbaz will be returning to the line-up.

Due to Hrehor and Shahbaz out, Ball State only had enough players for the two doubles teams instead of its normal three.

At No. 2 doubles, junior Elena Malykh and freshman Isabel Tanjuatco fell 1-6, which gave the Eagles the doubles point.

At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Annika Planinsek and junior Ella Hazelbaker were down 1-4 when doubles play stopped.

Soon after, singles play began.

Planinsek earned Ball State’s only point of the meet after defeating her opponent in three sets with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Malykh fought but lost in straight sets with a score of 3-6, 4-6.

Tanjuatco also fell in straight sets with a score of 3-6, 4-6 at No. 3 singles.

At No. 4 singles, Hazelbaker fell in straight sets. She came close in the first set with a score of 5-7 and fell 2-6 in the second set.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Jacqueline Pearsall lost in three sets with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 3-6.

Due to Ball State’s shortage of available players, the Cardinals had to forfeit the point at No. 6 singles.

The Cardinals will play the Eagles at home in a rematch on Sunday, March 24th.
