Indiana Statehouse hosts renewable energy event

INDIANAPOLIS -- Growing from 40 in attendance to over 200 registered, Hoosiers congregated at the Indiana Statehouse to gain insight about renewable energy and promote clean energy throughout Indiana.

Partnered with energy rights activists and non-profit organizations such as Solar United Neighbors, the sixth annual Renewable Energy Day event hosted over 200 individuals, the most in attendance compared to years prior.

Director of Advocacy for Earth Charter Indiana, Shannon Anderson, says she aims to continue educating all members, as well as advocating for policyholder’s to shift to clean energy uphold within state legislation.

“I think sometimes lawmakers can come to this building with a distorted sense about what priorities their consensus’s have,” she said. “What they don’t hear a lot is how many people out there want to see good energy policy that benefits not only our environment, but our communities as whole," Anderson said.

Indiana’s legislative figures were available throughout the day to connect with Indiana residents and provide information surrounding environmental policies and clean energy portfolios. Members of the state’s community’s had the chance at the event to share their concerns and voice their opinions to lean toward positive changes.

This free event was open to the public and volunteers representing such organizations. Attendees were able to inquire more information about their specific city’s energy profile and daily-life issues.

According to the Indiana State Profile and Energy Estimates, Indiana serves as the top 25 state that produces the most renewable energy.
