Ball State track and field places third at the MAC Indoor Championship

The Cardinals had a strong performance with multiple high placements.

The Cardinals traveled up to Ypsilanti, Michigan this weekend to compete in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Indoor Championship. Led by a strong showing from Jenelle Rogers the Cardinals finished in third place scoring 61.5 overall points.

Starting the weekend off on Friday with senior Jenelle Rogers, freshmen Sophie Daugard and Kendra Keesling competed in the pentathlon challenge. 

Rogers finished first overall in the event taking home the MAC championship in the pentathlon. She came in first in the 60m hurdles, shot put and long jump. She also placed fourth in the high Jump.

Daugard finished ninth overall, coming third in the shot put and fifth in the long jump. Keesling finished sixteenth overall, coming in eighth in the long jump and eleventh in the shot put.

In the long jump event, Rogers took home another MAC championship title placing first overall hitting a mark of 6.26m, an indoor personal best. 

In the 400m prelims, junior Jenna Oriani placed first with a time of 55.38 seconds, qualifying her to move on to the finals on Saturday. In the finals Oriani ran a 55.31, the fifth fastest time in Ball State history, finishing first and taking home the MAC championship 400m title.

In the 60m prelims senior Makayla Sumrall finished sixth with a qualifying time of 7.56, and sophomore Alana Springer came in seventh with a qualifying time of 7.57. On Saturday Springer finished sixth with a time of 7.51 and Sumrall finished eighth with a time of 7.59.

In the 200m prelims, Oriani finished fifth with a qualifying time of 24.72 and Springer finished seventh with a qualifying time of 24.81. On Saturday Oriani finished fourth with a run of 24.63 and Springer finished sixth with a time of 25.01.

In the distance medley relay junior Carly Spletzer, freshman Paige Kirtz, sophomore Leila Williams-Molito, and junior Sarah Mahnensmith finished sixth with a time of 11:55.48, the fastest DMR finishing time in ten years for the Cardinals.

On Saturday Rogers placed fourth in the high jump hitting a mark of 1.72m, and freshman Malina Miller finished ninth hitting a mark of 1.67m. In the triple jump junior Mckenna Cinotte finished eighth jumping 11.71m.

In the shot put Rogers placed fourth throwing a season-best 14.9m. Sophie Daugard also placed twelfth in the event with a throw of 12.81m.

To finish off the weekend the 4x400m relay team took home the bronze medal, placing third with a time of 3:47.18. The team was led by Oriani, Kirtz, junior Emma Potter and senior Alexis Thigpen.

The Cardinals begin their outdoor season on March 15th at the University of South Florida's Alumni Invite.
