Cardinals men's tennis win in first match of the spring season

Ball State men’s tennis completed their first match of the 2024 spring season with a win against Butler University.

In doubles play, the Cardinals had a rocky start, conceding a point to Butler from two of three doubles teams.

Graduate students Vince Orlando and Eli Herran lost their doubles match 6-3 while Juniors Nathaniel Webster and Sajin Smith lost 6-2 in their doubles match.

The Cardinals won 5 out of 6 singles matches with notable wins from Webster, sophomore Jacks Lancaster, and Herran; all of whom split sets and then came back to take the third.

Webster, at no. 1, won 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-1. At no. 2, junior Mason Tran lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. At no. 3, Orlando won 6-3, 6-4. 

Lancaster won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at no. 4. Playing at no. 5, Herran won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Smith won 6-4, 6-3 at no. 6.

The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday Jan. 20 at home against Eastern Illinois at 1 pm.
