Hundreds attend 2023 Student Success Summit

MUNCIE, Ind. --- Ball State University held its 2023 Student Success Summit for all to come. It was a two-day event that began with opening speaker Dr. Tia Brown McNair.

McNair is the vice president in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student Success, and she is the executive director for the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Centers at the American Association of Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C.

McNair spoke about sustaining momentum for student success, equity and change. This included doing a deep dive into racial disparities within academia, academic challenges for students while highlighting the importance of relationships between students and faculty and how to think about steps towards a solution.

“I want to be at the table, and I want you to acknowledge, and I want to make sure that I have the same resources that you do to be successful," McNair said.

She pointed out the skills that employers value from a liberal education. Some of the top values that employers are looking for include working effectively in teams, critical thinking skills, analyzing and interpreting data, digital literacy and applying knowledge/skills in the real world.
