Ball State Student Government Association discusses Black Student Association’s Collegiate Prom

The Ball State University Student Government Association (SGA) began directly with executive reports, having no special guests or special orders of business.

President Tina Nguyen highlighted an event they are a part of occurring this week.

“This Friday is the SGA prom paired with BSA [Black Student Association],” Nguyen said, “The theme is ‘Under the Stars’ and it will start at 9 p.m. and end at 12 a.m. in Ball Gym.”

BSA and SGA are collaborating to throw a collegiate prom. It will be held in Ball Gymnasium from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. You must purchase a ticket to enter the event. Tickets can be purchased electronically

There are royalty nominations that can be voted on electronically. This prom is a part of the “Everything BLK” Black History Month calendar and is their ending event of the month. For more information on BSA and the collegiate prom, go to their Instagram.

BSA is a part of the big four multicultural student organizations. Their mission statement “is to aid in the growth and development of Ball State collegiate students through a series of culturally, socially and academically focused discussions and programs from a unique African-American perspective,” according to  Multicultural Center's website.

Vice President Monet Lindstrand gave an announcement about volunteer opportunities and Treasurer Mamed Ramazanli disclosed three new budget requests that would be discussed in a finance meeting.

President Pro Tempore Riley Wert shared that Records and Retention (R&R) had their first meeting.

“We got the ball rolling on a couple of things and set a couple of goals that we’d like to do this semester and in the next,” Wert said.

Joseph Gassensmith, chief-of-staff, announced the Homecoming Steering Committee applications close on Feb. 22 at 11:30 p.m. 

According to Ball State’s Communications Center’s website interviews will be held Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 at the Alumni Center. 

“The committee is comprised of students and advisors who plan and coordinate the all-university Homecoming activities,” according to the Steering Committee's website.

He also talked about his communication with the University Police Department.

“I will be emailing the chief of police of the University Police Department to discuss getting a list of locations to create a blue light map that we can put on Navigate so students have access to it,” Gassensmith said.

University Police have a map of emergency phones on their website.

They didn’t introduce any new amendments or resolutions, and they had no amendments or resolutions to vote on.
