Ball State Gymnastics wins over Kent State

Ball State Gymnastics wins its 10th straight head-to-head match.

MUNCIE, INDIANA. — The Ball State Gymnastics team continues its great season as they won their 10th straight head-to-head meet this past Sunday. They defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes by a score of 196.125-195.725.

“When you are in mid-season and you can go out and face some tough competition and stay in the competition mode until the very last routine, and handle all of the distractions that come along with that; I think that that is a really good practice and a good sign for where they are at as a team,” Head Coach Joanna Saleem said.

The Cardinals managed this victory paced behind Suki Pfister's 9.900 vault score that scored her the individual win in the event.

“She’s a bundle of energy so it’s really fun and exciting to watch her grow and mature into herself,” said the head coach about Pfister.

Pfister wasn’t the only Ball State athlete with an aggressive outing. Juniors Hannah Ruthberg and Victoria Henry paced the scores in the all-around competition to keep it competitive. Ruthberg scored 39.250 to tie the 10th-best score in program history, while Henry tied the 15th-best at 39.200. Here is what Ruthberg had to say about her performance on Sunday.

“I felt pretty good about it. I know I have more in the tank, I know I have more to give and I am going to keep working,” Ruthberg said.

Head Coach Joanna Saleem and the Cardinals look to keep their winning streak going on February 26 at home, when they host Central Michigan at 1 p.m.

“For us, it’s about continuing to work on those little details,” is what Saleem had to say about what the team will be working on this week in practice.
