After both teams had long drives that ended in punts, the Marion Giants scored a touchdown on a questionable run and fumble in the endzone, but missed the extra point. They led 6-0 with 4:10 left in the first quarter.
The Muncie Central faithful let the referees know that they disagreed with the call.
But the Bearcat crowd would soon have something to cheer for. On the kickoff, Senior running back Josiah Ullom received the ball, made it past the 50-yard line and was gone. Touchdown. They led 7-6 with 3:57 left in the first quarter.
This return would kick off the Bearcats spirit and would follow through to victory on homecoming night.
Muncie Central (2-5, 2-3 NC) has now won back-to-back games. This week they took down the Marion Giants(0-7, 0-5 NC).
A few minutes after the Ullom touchdown return, Bearcats junior wide receiver and defensive back, Leo Boyd, picked off the giants.
This would open the door for senior quarterback Trenton French to find Ullom in the endzone. They extended the lead 14-6 at the 1:43 mark.
On the following kickoff, the Bearcats stripped the ball right out of a Giants player’s hands.
To begin the second quarter, the Bearcats would again find the promised land as French would find Boyd for a Bearcat touchdown. They led 20-6 at the 11:18 mark.
The Giants would again be forced to punt. A recurring theme for this game is the lack of communication from the Giants sideline and the defense of the Bearcats. Muncie Central Head coach Kyle Padgett praised his defense after the game for stopping Marion.
“We have an incredible defensive coaching staff,” he said. “The kids have really bought into what we’re selling them. Build the wall upfront and just to pursue.”
As the Giants tried to punt, a bad snap caused the Bearcats to get to the punter. This would set up a touchdown pass from French. They led 27-6 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half.
After more defensive dominance and multiple delay of game calls, the Giants were forced to punt again punted. During the play, a personal foul was called on the Bearcats.
But the Bearcats would fumble the ball to the Giants. A few plays after a very late hit on a Giants ball carrier, which resulted in another personal foul, they were able to score. Marion still trailed 27-12 with 3:23 left in the half.
After another fumble by the Giants, the Bearcats junior running back Darryl Hollinsworth ran for a touchdown. They led 34-12 at 8:16 in the third quarter.
Once again, the Giants punted. Ullom found wide open space again and returned it to the house. They led 42-12 at the 5:35 mark.
“It’s from the guys in front of me,” Ullom said. “They’re not getting the praise, but they go out and block for me.”
The defense showed no sign of stopping in the fourth quarter. The Giants again punted. This set up an 84-yard pass from French to a wide open Boyd for the final Bearcat touchdown. The Bearcats led 48-12 with 8:29 remaining.
The game ended with the Bearcats 48 and the Giants 12.
Around Delaware County, Wes-Del got their first win of the season against Tindley with a 6-0 score, Delta lost to Pendelton heights 27-10 and Yorktown defeated Greenfield Central 40-29.

Delta will be on the road for its next contest against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville April 23 at 6 p.m. Muncie Central will travel to Muncie Burris for its next matchup, also April 23 at 6 p.m.
