Cardinal Climate Rally

Protestors gather with handmade posters at University Green

MUNCIE, Ind.--- On University Green, students gathered with posters and signs they had made earlier in the week.

A rally held Friday, September 23rd near the famous Ball State bell tower demands a stop to climate change and global warming. Protestors named the rally “No Planet B: A Climate rally.” The Student Government Association (SGA) put on the rally in conjunction with the College Democrats at Ball State.

Many speakers from various clubs across the campus took the microphone to give not-so-fun facts about the state of our climate and Indiana’s nationwide ranking in these upsetting statistics. Indiana ranks depressingly low in environmentally conscious legislature and action. Booths were set up to represent all the different clubs that participated in the rally.

Students participated in a survey conducted by Sarah Owens, a SGA representative, on ways the university and city could improve their environmentally conscious actions.

Results say that students wanted to see “less plastic in dining halls,” and more clearly labeled recycling bins. Marie Scudder, a rally participant, says people should care about the state of the environment because, “We all live here.”
