Indiana District 6 is set to play host to both the 2022 Little League Baseball Indiana State Tournament and the Junior League Softball Central Regional. These two tournaments are scheduled to overlap, as the Little League Baseball Tournament is scheduled for July 22-27 and the Junior League Softball Tournament is scheduled for July 20-25.
The location for the Little League Baseball Indiana State Tournament is on a 10-year cycle, allowing each of Indiana’s 10 regions to host once every cycle and 2022 was District 6’s first year since 2010 to host, as 2020 and 2021’s tournaments were canceled due to COVID-19. Anderson Little League, Delta (Muncie) Little League, Hagerstown Little League, Harry Bridges (Elwood) Little League, New Castle Little League and New Castle Softball Little League make up District 6.
Jim Kemp, District 6 Administrator, chose New Castle Little League to host 2022’s tournament.
“I chose New Castle Little League because they have two lighted fields with grass infields and a small army of dedicated volunteers that I knew I could depend on,” Kemp said. “The league has great support from the New Castle community which has embraced this tournament and helped fund additional improvements to the New Castle Little League facility that make it even nicer than when I made the choice.”
According to the tournament’s website, teams are scheduled to arrive the morning of July 22 with coaches meetings, opening ceremonies and games beginning shortly after. Champions from all 10 Indiana Districts are set to compete in this tournament, with the winner advancing to the Little League Baseball Great Lakes Regional August 6-10 at the Little League Central Region Headquarters in Whitestown, Indiana.

The Junior League Softball Central Regional is annually hosted by Indiana District 6, after the district was awarded this honor in late 2018 and first hosted in 2019. Again, COVID-19 caused 2020 and 2021’s tournaments to be canceled, meaning 2022 is the second time Indiana District 6 has hosted this tournament.
Team Arrival, Opening Ceremonies and a team dinner are scheduled for the evening of July 20, with games set for July 21-24. The winner of the Junior League Softball Central Regional advances to the Junior League Softball World Series July 31- August 6 at Everest Park in Kirkland, Washington.
The host field of this tournament is Legend’s Field at Pendleton High School in Pendleton, Indiana, as chosen by Kemp.
“In this area, Legend’s Field is second to none in atmosphere for a softball tournament,” Kemp said. “We were so happy with the success of the 2019 regional that we put in a bid to host the Little League Softball World Series in Pendleton. We were honored to be one of the three finalists, but ultimately the World Series was awarded to Greenville, North Carolina.”
That said, Kemp noted 2022 is the final year Indiana District 6 is scheduled to host this regional, due to low volunteer support and limited time.
