Michael Lewis officially announced as Ball State Men's Basketball Head Coach

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) -- Michael Lewis was officially introduced as the new head coach of Ball State Basketball on Wednesday morning. A press conference was held at Dr. Don Shondell Practice Facility in front of members of the Ball State and Muncie community.

Ball State director of Athletics Beth Goetz announced Lewis’ return home to Indiana and what basketball means to this state.

“Basketball here in Indiana just means more, all of those dreams are wrapped up in Michael Lewis, our new head coach," Goetz said.

Coach Lewis played for Indiana University from 1997-2000. Lewis traced all over the nation as an assistant coach starting at Texas Tech as a graduate assistant and just recently with UCLA. Coach Lewis has a lot to say about Indiana and what it means to come back here and to win.

"I'm here to win championships, I'm not coming back to this state to lose. You know like I said its personal to me I like what we have in our locker room right now I'm confident what we can add to this locker room, and then I'm very confident on how I can perform on the floor," Lewis said.

Coach Lewis is already promoting his new style of basketball and how it can benefit both his players and the Ball State community.

“I’m here to prepare young men to be successful and as we build this program like I said I want to instill my personality in this current team. Then we are going to recruit student athletes that are going to represent the university the right way. So if you love basketball, you’re tough as hell, and you love to compete, you belong at Ball State.”
