Ball State announces Caitlin Walsh as next field hockey head coach

After the departure of former Ball State field hockey head coach Stephanie Bernthal, Ball State director of athletics Beth Goetz announced former Kent State assistant Caitlin Walsh as the new head coach on March 24.

Walsh spent three years as an assistant for the Golden Flashes, finishing with a 34-18 record, 20-5 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and two regular season first place finishes in the MAC.

"After conducting a thorough search, Caitlin separated herself as a competitive and passionate leader who is well respected in this industry,” Goetz said in a press release. “She is a relentless recruiter and is excited to develop our young women on the field and in the classroom. We're excited to welcome her to the Ball State family."

Walsh spent three years as a starter for Old Dominion as a midfielder and defender, ending her career with 14 points on five goals and four assists while leading the Monarchs to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

"I am extremely honored to become the next field hockey coach at Ball State," Walsh said. "I would like to thank director of athletics Beth Goetz and deputy athletics director Haven Fields for providing me this amazing opportunity. I am looking forward to leading this group of young, motivated women to success in the classroom and on the field. I cannot wait to get started and lead this historic program."
