Ball State’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies will host its annual Women’s Week March 21-25. The theme for this year is “Grow Locally, Think Globally.”
Each year, Ball State hosts this week-long event with lectures, discussions, film screenings, music performances and art that celebrates the achievements and experiences of women.
According to a flyer from the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, the events scheduled to be held are as follows:
March 21
Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) Informational Tabling
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Student Center Tally
Members of the Women’s and Gender Studies program will offer information about classes in the department, as well as free stickers, buttons, posters and pens.
Disability Services movie night, featuring “Temple Grandin”
5-7 p.m., Student Center Cardinal Hall B
The Office of Disability Services presents the drama television film, “Temple Grandin,” about a woman with autism who finds interest in the handling of livestock, in honor of Indiana’s Disability Awareness Month.
Making History: Celebrating Notable Women of Muncie and Delaware County
7-8 p.m., Student Center Music Lounge
The Delaware County Historical Society will present information about notable women in Muncie’s history, featuring speakers including Karen Vincent, Karen Good, Sara McKinley and Melissa Gentry.
March 22

Real Inclusion: “Mankiller” Documentary Screening
5:30-7:30 p.m., Art and Journalism Building 225
Ball State’s Reel Inclusion series, with the Office of Inclusive Excellence and University Libraries, will be screening the documentary “Mankiller,” which celebrates the life of Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to be elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. After the screening, Dr. Cailin Murray, associate professor of anthropology, will lead a discussion.
Women of Song Choral Concert
7:30 p.m., Sursa Hall
This concert performance includes Ball State clubs like Vox Anima, as well as community choirs like White River Sound and Anderson University’s Vola Voce. Virtual streaming will be available on Ball State’s website starting 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Excellence in Leadership Speaker Series: Rachel Lindsay
7:30 p.m., Pruis Hall
Rachel Lindsay, a media personality, attorney and podcast host, will visit Ball State’s campus for the Excellence in Leadership speaker series. She will discuss her role as the first African American lead on ABC’s “The Bachelorette” and offer advice to current students.
March 23

Presented by the Multicultural Center and GIS Research and Map Collection, information is available about women, both past and present, who have impacted the Delaware County and Ball State communities through advocacy. Courtney Jarrett, director of the Office of Disability Services, will also share what women empowerment and Women’s History Month mean to her.
Notable Women Gratitude Blog-A-Thon
2-5 p.m., GIS Research and Map Collection (Bracken Library 224)
Presented by the Delaware County Historical Society, “Notable Women of Muncie and Delaware County Project” and GIS Research and Map Collection, bloggers will contribute to one specific blog for an extended amount of time. Prize drawing for Starbucks and Target gift cards will take place too.
WGS 499 Capstone Poster Session
6-7:30 p.m., Student Center Cardinal C
Hosted by the Women’s and Gender studies (WGS) 499 Spring 2022 class. Major and minor students of WGS create presentations about how feminism ties in with their future careers.
Feminist Trivia Night
7:30-9 p.m., Student Center Cardinal Hall A
Anyone who wants to test their knowledge about the feminist movement is invited to join the WGS department for a trivia night.

Presented by the Office of Service Victims, this presentation discusses what services student advocates offer, reporting options, sexual assault examination kits, what consent stands for, and the misbeliefs versus facts of sexual assault.
“Celebration of Women's History Month” featuring Melissa Harris-Perry Event Watch Party
7 p.m., Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room
Sponsored by the Ball State Multicultural Center and Office of Disability Services, Ball State will partner with Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) to stream a conversation with Melissa Harris-Perry — a writer, professor, television host and political commentator who hosted “Melissa Harris-Perry” on MSNBC from 2012-16.

DIY Poster Day
12-5 p.m., the Quad
Everyone is invited to create their own feminist poster.WGS will provide all supplies for the project, but each participant will be asked to bring one package of period products or other toiletries to donate to Cardinal Kitchen.
