Muncie Civic Theatre Hosts "Newsies"

The cast members of “Newsies” find empowerment in their roles

MUNCIE, Ind.---One building that has been intact for 90 years now serves as one of the oldest civic theaters in Muncie, Indiana.

Although the building has been restored, Muncie Civic Theatre’s rich history can be seen through it’s architecture and unique feel.

The theater’s most recent project is a musical set in 1899 during the newsboy strike, titled “Newsies”.

The show’s plot and characters allow the actors to express themselves and feel empowered.

“It has been good for me as a pre-transition trans woman to take on the role of a woman who is so confident and comfortable in her womanhood,” cast member Hunter Greenleaf said.

“Newsies” runs Feb. 17-20, 24-27 at Muncie Civic Theatre, and the public can show their support by purchasing tickets at munciecivic.org.
