RHA hosts BALLGBTQ+ to help create a safe environment for students

MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink)-- The Residence Hall Association (RHA) hosted BALLGBTQ+ to help create a safe environment for students to meet other students that are within the LGBTQ+ community. With October being National Coming Out Month RHA planned a few activities to help students to embrace who they are.

Andrew VanAsdall, the Facility Director for RHA shared more about the mission for BALLGBTQ+.

“We tried to create an environment, which students feel comfortable with a community of people that also understand what they are going through in life,” said VanAsdall.

Students were able to embrace who they were by writing on themselves with markers, some students wrote encouraging words to share their self confidence. Other students were able to share their coming out story by participating in ‘Coming out stars’.

BALLGBTQ+ provided an opportunity for students to hear and share stories from members within the community, while other students learned how to become better allies. Jennifer Gosse, the Activities Director for RHA wanted to embrace this month with the event.

“We just wanted to have a coming out event because coming out day was during fall break and we still wanted to embrace that,”said Gosse.
