Peace Center to host panel with Muncie mayor, other guests discussing ongoing conflict in Afghanistan

Ball State's Center for Peace and Conflict Studies will host a free panel discussion about the current Afghanistan crisis Sept. 9 in the Art and Journalism Building.

Panelists are listed below:

  • Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour
  • Bibi Bahrami, founder and president of Afghan Women's and Kids' Education and Necessities (AWAKEN)
  • Lt. Col. James Babbitt, Ball State professor of military science
  • Kenneth Holland, professor and dean at Jindal Global Law School in India

The panel will be moderated by Larry Gerstein, director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies. For those who cannot attend in-person, a Zoom link will be available and no prior registration is required. The even will take place 5-6 p.m. in AJ 175.

The panelists will discuss the history of Afghanistan, the United States’ involvement in the ongoing conflict, ramifications of the current crisis, and will highlight ways for people to take action.
