MUNCIE, Ind. (NewsLink) -- From Sept. 4 through 11, The Exchange Club of Muncie partnered up with the Flags of Honor fundraiser, which showcased 1000 flags at Minnietrista to honor our veterans and those lost during 9/11.

Bob Rector, treasurer and member of The Exchange Club of Muncie, said this annual fundraiser is extremely important.

“This is our 100th year anniversary, we are the longest-running civic organization here in Muncie and we do a lot of things in the community. Really the pillars of the Exchange Club are the prevention of child abuse and patriotism,” Rector said.

Rector also talked about how the Flags of Honor fundraiser was an important event, not only to them but to the community.

“We have an area for fallen firefighters, for fallen police officers in the line of duty. I think this is a good field for people to come and reflect on. It’s about 9/11, it was about 20 years ago and a lot of people remember that day.”

But the flags aren't only for those lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They are for all sorts of veterans and fallen heroes, something Rector wanted to highlight.

“It’s important to our veterans and our first responders that we honor them on this Patriot's Day. You know, a lot of people ran away and they tan towards that, that fire and those towers. There’s a lot to be said for that courage.”
