New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation Aug. 10 after he had received sexual harassment allegations and an investigation had found he sexually harassed at least 11 women.

Cuomo announced this after pressure had been growing from his fellow Democrats, including President Joe Biden, to resign. His resignation will go into effect in two weeks.

The announcement came one week after New York Attorney General Letitia James released the results of the investigation finding Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women, saying he subjected them to unwanted kisses, touched them inappropriately and made insinuating remarks about their looks and sex lives.

Kathy Hocul, New York lieutenant governor, will take over as the state's first female governor in two weeks.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Cuomo did not speak with the president before announcing his resignation and gave no advance notice.
