Muncie Central High School wins state fair band day

Muncie Central High School won the Indiana State Fair band competition Aug. 6 for the first time since 2014.

The Indiana State Fair Marching Band Competition takes place each year in August and hosts 33 bands from schools around the state. It was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and returned this year.

The Anderson, Elwood and Hagerstown marching bands had to pull out of the competition due to some students being exposed to COVID-19 and needing to quarantine.

Thirty-three bands performed at the competition, and 16 performed in the finals of the competition. From there, Muncie Central was chosen as champion of the event.
