In a statewide address, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced the state of Indiana plans to open COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all Hoosiers ages 16 and older March 31.

Of the three COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), only Pfizer is approved for ages 16-18, but Moderna just recently began studies of its vaccine efficacy in children, according to a press release from the company.

"The state plans to open vaccine eligibility to all Hoosiers 16 years and older on Wednesday, March 31, provided Indiana receives a large increase in the amount of vaccine as outlined by the federal government," a press release said.

Additionally, Holcomb said the statewide mask mandate will become a mask advisory April 6, but K-12 schools will continue under current requirements until the end of the spring 2021 semester. Seating in restaurants, bars and nightclubs will be recommended to be spaced six feet apart.

Local governments and municipalities can enforce stricter guidelines. The Indiana Department of Health will continue to update its county color-coded guidance according to local COVID-19 spread.

Once you’re eligible for a free COVID-19 vaccine in Indiana, schedule an appointment by visiting OurShot.in.gov or calling 211 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Vaccines are also available at Walmart, Meijer and Kroger. Walmart uses the state’s registration system, but Meijer and Kroger each have their own systems. Meijer will ask questions about vaccine eligibility and require a zip code to find nearby pharmacies that offer vaccinations. Kroger will ask for a zip code to find nearby pharmacies and will specify which stores offer COVID-19 vaccines.

The state of Indiana will also open additional mass vaccination clinics in April and implement a large employer vaccination program.
