Lloyd the cat, famous in Muncie for walking around Ball State's campus and befriending students, died at the age of 14.
According to a March 14 Instagram post from Lloyd's profile @Lloyd_the_people_cat, Lloyd "spent his last days wandering, resting, and being pampered by his family."
On Jan. 14, 2021, Lloyd was diagnosed with nonmetastatic skin cancer and received medication as treatment.
Students and alumni shared some of their memories of Lloyd on the Instagram post announcing his death.
Lloyd the cat came to Ball State's campus in 2017 when owner Jody Mason moved back to Muncie. Mason said in the Instagram post that Lloyd broke into her house through the air ducts in December 2009 and had lived with her and her husband ever since.
Mason previously told The Daily News she believes Lloyd developed skin cancer as a result of running into a car in 2019 and tearing up his nose. Mason started a GoFundMe page for Lloyd's medical expenses, which raised more than $2,800.
Mason, who runs Lloyd's Instagram account, said in the post "A vast, cat-shaped hole has opened in the universe, as Lloyd crossed the rainbow bridge today. He will be missed."
