The Strive student government association (SGA) slate participated in its final debate before the spring 2021 election.

Presidential candidate Tina Nguyen and Vice Presidential candidate Chiara Biddle said they are hoping to meet with hall councils and other on-campus organizations. They also want to encourage students to join SGA and give the slate feedback.

“If they don’t want to come to an event, we will come to them,” Biddle said.

The slate wants the student body to become educated on diversity and help them feel at home on campus. Nguyen said Strive slate members will have an “open door policy” if they are elected so students can feel comfortable coming to them with concerns.

“I personally feel like SGA is a ‘secret society’, where you feel like you have to know someone to get in,” Nguyen said. “We want you in. We want you to be the positive change for campus.”

Biddle said of all the issues Strive wants to address, she wants to “get our name out there” and engage students with SGA.

Nguyen said the slate plans to work with transportation services and University Dining to implement some of their main goals, but it also wants to hear more from the student body.

Slate members have previously said they want to encourage Dining Services to supply fewer single-use plastic products

“We are very open to criticism,” Nguyen said. “We are very open to hearing what the student body wants from us.”

The election will take place on March 1 and 2.
