Strive is the only student government association (SGA) slate to submit a nomination form to run for the Ball State SGA executive board for the 2021-22 school year.

Strive's first debate was livestreamed on NewsLink Indiana's Facebook page, and moderated by NewsLink Indiana news director Tylor Brummett Feb. 10. Members introduced themselves and their slate's focuses for the election season.

Rather than run on traditional platform points, the slate is running on four focuses: engage, educate, encourage and strive.

Presidential candidate Tina Nguyen said the engage focus is meant to promote slate transparency with the student body. Chief adminstrator candidate Nita Burton said the educate focus is meant to provide students and faculty with resources to learn about diversity and expand trainings that are already in place, including implicit bias and SafeZone trainings.

Chiara Biddle, vice presidential candidate, said the encourage focus is targeted at furthering Ball State's green initiatives and promoting environmentally-friendly behaviors on campus, particularly in Dining Services in aiming to reduce its use of single-use plasticware.

Jacob Bartolotta, treasurer candidate, said the strive focus aims to shift SGA's business to measures and projects that better the student body's experience on campus.

Strive is the only slate to file nomination paperwork for the 2021 election season, but Nguyen said in an email at about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 10 that she expects one more slate to file a nomination form to run against Strive.

The next debate, which will only include presidential and vice presidential candidates, is scheduled to be livestreamed on NewsLink Indiana's Facebook page Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
